For Children

Hi, I am Shafinaz, a Play Therapist who would like to help you, I have tried to answer questions you may have.

If you have a question that you would like to ask me instead, please use the "message us" button at the bottom of this page to type your question. I will try to answer that as quickly as possible.

Why do I need to go for Play therapy?

Sometimes children have big feelings they find difficult to talk about, sometimes children feel no one will understand them and some children simply don’t want to talk to anyone about their worries. Shafinaz will not ask you to talk about your feelings when you don’t want to but will be able to help you by playing with you.

What will I do in the Play Therapy room?

A Play Therapy room has lots of different things like a sand tray with tiny toy houses, animals, trees, sea shells, Music instruments, Puppets, Doll houses, Puzzles, Board games, Paint and things like fidget toys, bubbles. When you come into the room, you can decide what you want to play with and you can ask Shafinaz to join you or not if you want her to just be with you. If you feel like you don’t know what to play with Shafinaz can always give you ideas.

What if I want to stop therapy after starting?

You can always stop or take a break and come back later when you are ready, Shafinaz will never force you to do anything you don’t want to.

I feel silly coming for Play Therapy, is it for babies?

Play Therapy is for everyone, sometimes even adults do Play Therapy and Shafinaz thinks Play Therapy is for people who are brave enough to ask for help.

Will you tell others what I do in the Play Therapy room?

Play therapy is confidential and Shafinaz will not talk about the things you do to your parents/carers or teachers. Only time I will tell someone is when I feel you are not safe.

I feel worried coming alone, can I bring an adult with me?

On the first day you can be with an adult if you feel too worried and later try to come in alone while your adult stays outside the Play Therapy room. Children like the Play Therapy room and want to stay longer when they come.

Will my mum or teacher ask me what I do at Play Therapy?

You don’t have to tell anyone anything about Play Therapy unless you want to.

Are there no rules in the Play Therapy room?

There are very few rules to keep you,Shafinaz and the things in the room safe but not too many rules. If you forget them Shafinaz will always remind you and you will not get into trouble.
